Today I ran for the first time since getting my wisdom teeth out. I felt fine. Nice, slow pace! So glad to be done with the wisdom teeth break! I need to keep taking care of myself cause my calves hurt a bit.

Today was our first day back at the school running and my second after wisdom teeth break. Felt good just out to Greensprings and back. Talked about some fun stuff and the season for track and our teams potential to be really good next year with almost everyone, but me, mike and jason returning! I expect them to be great and to write me on my mission when they win state! ;)

Today we ran out into Middleton. I felt good, a little sore from the weight lifting! Coach talked to me about trying to take the steeple chase at SUU if I qualify for state in the 1600 and 3200 early which I think I can do. I feel like I could be good at the steeple. Too bad I can only race it once, but I'm sure I could go for the school record because mike wasn't trying until the end (he was messing around like 99% of the guys were...just to have fun!). I think it'd be a good race for me and if I can get a solid time down coach said it might impress some college coaches. I want this track season to end like I think I deserve it to, because I've worked so hard and consistently and it hasn't paid completely off yet! Plus I'm gonna work on my upper-body strength and core stuff on my own. Plus I am going to work on my form by doing some drills to make my stride quicker and more bouncy, because sometimes I run flat.

2x1600 (85%) w/3min rec, Harts warm/cool. (85% based on my 1600 time this xc season was 5:41) So, we were suppose to find out what our time was per lap and I didn't want to do the math, so I took a second or two off of what byron was suppose to get. 1st 1600 was a little weird because mike messed up on his math or something and was running our speed (he should have been like 5 seconds ahead per lap). He thought we were going too fast so we were confused, but we were just a couple seconds slow (5:46). 2nd 1600 was really great...felt fine I felt like I could get in the groove really easily and I really decided not to overthink or really think and just have fun doing what I love to do...run! So, I ran a little fast on this one, 5:35 so I was a little fast, but it wasn't like I was pushing at all...felt absolutely fine! I am excited to just end my high school running career having fun and pushing myself! I am going to try to put less pressure on myself and just have fun running fast! Cause sometimes I stress too much!

Well, hunter told me we had just five today, but we had a workout.  But we couldn't have done it anyways because we were so dead from a long trip.  We did 5 miles easy around this lake that seemed to never end!  It finally did though and then we got to sleep before another day at Disney World!

Today we were supposed to do the Kosmin Test, but we were in Disney World so that was impossible.  So, instead we did 5 with 4 fartleks thrown in at the end.  I felt really good today even though we had walked around 11 miles (not exaggerating...we measured with a garmin!) and had a lot of fun in Epicot!  I am excited to just have fun running this spring..and beating some people while im at it! ;)

Today I just ran 5 because it was so late by the time we got back I didn't have time for a workout. I am so fatigued from this trip...I think I need a vacation from my vacation! We walked SO much and then running and really a huge change in diet (for the worse!) really took it's toll! Hopefully I can get back to eating healthy!

I ran the workout today...sort of. We had to pack and things so I didn't have time for a good enough warm and cool so I only went a mile on each. This workout sucked cause I was tired, it was extra humid/hot, i was malnourished, and hunter wasn't with me. I was trying to run well, but it just wasn't in me today. And it happens and I am just gonna accept that and do better next time. My 1600m equivalent was 5:42, 5:57, 5:56. They weren't really great times, but for how bad I felt...they actually were good. I will just rest up and do better next time!!

Went out to river trail and went 9 miles w/18 min tempo at 5:36 pace.  I was feeling the fatigue from my trip and mostly all the junk and stuff I ate (mostly cause I switched from high carb diet to high in protein, but switching back felt good today).  We started our tempo and I felt fine the first mile, just sticking behind mike and able.  Then, the next mile was about the same.  The half mile is when the fatigue and stuff hit me and I started to get out of the groove I had been in.  I fell off the pack a bit, but then I got back up right on coaches shoulder like he told me, but only for a few seconds cause then I fell off again but not as far maybe a few feet.  I caught up by the end though.  I thought this was a good workout considering how tired I was and if I can stay in there when I'm this tired I can do it any other day.

Did the Kosmin Test today instead of old man hills.  4x60 sec. all out with 3, 2, 1 min recovery.  It measures how fast you should get in the 1600m. I felt really slow and tight during this workout, but I ended up at the distance 1,448m about 3 meters short of Byron's.  So, we got the same projected time of 4:46 which is only 6 seconds slower than mike!  And if I can do that in the season I'll be good to go I think cause he will get some legit times this year.  So, for feeling so crappy, this was a good workout.

20 minLT...oh wait its stupid 15 minLT!  Accidentally read the workout for  next weekend and did it...stupid right?!  Well anyway, I warmed up a mile and then got going.  First mile of it was around 5:24, but then it started going a little up hill and I hit a wall and I probably averaged just above 6 min pace.  The last bit, around a 1.5, was good cause it was downhill it was 5:30 pace.  So, if it was the 15 LT I think I could've kept pace, but whatever.  I just need to push through my wall.  Also, it was hard cause I ate like 30 min beforehand so I felt like throwing up.

4x1600m (85%- 5:35 pace) w/ 3 min recovery, Harts warm/cool.  First one was super good.  I felt great and form felt great (5:32).  Second one felt just as easy and it was nice that colton ran with me and byron.  Hopefully he will come back strong (5:33).  Third one was where I started to feel less effortless, but not really hard.  We pushed it a little more this one (5:27).  The final one I wasn't tired, but my form felt all wacked, but we still pulled off a solid time especially since Byron seemed to be struggling a little (not a lot), he was tough though!  (5:28) 

Overall-  I was just having fun this workout and talking and it felt really smooth and bouncy/energetic.  I am excited for this track season cause I am not as unhealthy about my competitiveness right now...I mean I like to win...I am just not stressing about it and making ultimatums about it!  Running is really fun right now!

AM- 3 Miles E. Slept through my alarm and so I ran by myself.  I felt good.

PM- 24min AT (4:45+1min)- I felt great for most of this workout.The last couple of minutes I was struggling and I fell off...normally I would keep falling back, but coach just told me to match his steps to stay the same distance (a couple of feet).  I just stuck that distance for the rest, because I couldn't get myself to get moving faster.  I ended pretty well.  I just need to teach myself to push harder and faster when I get tired.  Averaged around 5:40 which is the pace I should've hit.  Did well and learned one thing to work on...finishing my workouts!

6 miles with 20min LT pace. (5:26/mile) It was a little drizzly and cold this morning which I love to run in! We warmed up about a 1.5 I think. We started our tempo and I was with Mike and Able, but when we crossed the road just off the misquito trail mike somehow gained 10 feet on me. He then stretched it to around 20ft then we flipped in the middle. As we were going downhill I was flying and gaining on mike, but then this car failed to see me at a stop sign (people are dumb drivers!), so I had to stop in order to not die!! So, I lost all momentum and after that I was gaining, but then mike surged for a bit and gapped me again...i wouldve caught him and could've stayed with him! My pace was around the 5:40's which is way slower, but i'm not stressing. It was cold and I thought I taught myself to finish and not worrying about dying off!

AM- 3 miles E. Wasn't really cold this morning. Felt good.

PM- 4x1600 (5:27 per 1600) w/3min rec, Harts warm/cool. First one I just didn't want to get out too fast and blow my whole workout so I held a little bit back, with Colton and Byron pushing me. (5:29-2 seconds slow) Second one I wanted to go faster, but I just wanted it to be slightly faster, not too out there. We switched off every lap which helped. (5:28- 1 sec. slow) The third one, coach told us to take turns leading every 200m, so Colton, Byron, and I switched off and it seemed way easier! Coach told us before the last lap that we were too slow and I was behind Colton and Byron, so I decided to push our pace...and we picked it up a lot that last lap with Byron pushing us in faster! (5:23- 4 sec. under) The last one it was just me and byron (colton is still coming back from injury), so I just wanted to get the same as the third or better. We ended up closer to mike than ever before! And we hit the same time! (5:23- 4 sec. under)

This workout was awesome! I felt really awesome and it seemed easy! I think this switching off thing was awesome! I think we should do it for tempos too! I am excited for this workout!

AM- 3 miles E. I felt alright this morning. Need to take care of my muscles more and get to bed earlier. New goal- in bed by like 8:30 would be nice...asleep by 9:30!

PM- 10 miles with 24min AT (5:45/mile), I was feeling a little blah warming up the first couple miles, so I was a little worried going into the workout. We started out and I got into a groove and guess what? For a while I shut my mind off for once!! I think thats one of very few times I have been able to! I stuck with mike, able, coach, and jason until around a mile left it seemed like mike and coach picked it up a little it felt and I was just a bit behind able. I averaged around 5:33/mile which is like 12 seconds faster than what I am suppose to get!! Coach said it was our best tempo of the year which is awesome!!

Old Man Hills 2x800m. Hadn't done this in a while so it was hard to tell if I was good or not. My first 800m I stuck with mike almost all the way, and I swear I was closer but he said I was 5 seconds behind him. (2:33) My second one I did the same about, but I pushed it more at the end. (2:33) I hadn't done this workout in a while so it was nice to get the first one done.

Goal to get to bed by 9:30 - CHECK! only 65 more days until a habit is formed!

Got home from a good, but long and tiring SUU leadership thing.  I got home and just wanted to be lazy so I knew I would have to get the run in right away if I was to do it at all.  I just felt blah and had no one to push me this workout, which is what I needed today.  First mile was what killed me I averaged high 5:40-low 50's.  The next bit I hit it dead on!  I was so impressed cause I was more tired than the beginning and I felt like I had to focus on my form a lot!  I averaged 5:40 for the whole workout.  I feel fine about it though cause I hit the last 2 miles really well (2nd mile I was like 5:20's and the 3rd mile I was like high 5:30's).  I think I learned from this even though I didn't hit my times perfect all throughout.

Oh and its 6.3 because I thought we were suppose to go eight then realized we're suppose to go six. haha my bad :-)

AM- 3 miles E.  It was nippy this morning.  I felt like I usually do in the mornings, fine.

PM- 4x1600m (5:20 per) w/ 3 min recovery.  Harts warm/cool.  I wasn't feeling amazing before hand, but I wasn't feeling terrible.  First one was fairly easy.  We had to slow down the last lap in order to not get too antsy. (5:19)  The next one was a little harder, but wasn't too hard (5:19).  The third one was the hardest one, but with me and byron switching every 200 meters it really helped.  We pushed it in the last lap. (5:16) The fourth one I was tired, but I stuck it in cause I felt obligated to stick with Byron to take my turn.  We pushed it in to seal off a great workout (5:17).

Overall-  I think this idea of switching off is a good thing for me, because it doesn't allow for me to give up on myself.  I am going to have to use this in a race! :-)

AM- 3miles E.  I felt fine.  My calf is bugging a little bit and I'm a little sore, so I should stretch better.

PM- 5 miles on the Ice House trail.  The hill going up is super long (1/2 mile) and is pretty steep, which I oddly love haha.  I liked today's run, because I love trail and I felt decent.  The tightness and calves were bugging but nothing stretching and rolling can't fix!

Side note- my shoes have both hit over 200 miles on them which usually I am pretty hard on my shoes and they are dead by then and I just squeeze out about 50 more miles of easy runs with them but these are holding up super well.  It's probably cause I have switched off so well between them and I think they are well done shoes.

AM- 3 miles E.  I am still tight cause I forgot to stretch.

PM- 10 miles total.  30 min AT pace (5:46/mile).  The first half of it on the trail was easy really, but I felt the ramifications of not taking care of myself well enough.  When turned around after about 1/2 mile I fell off a couple feet, but then fought my way back up twice.  Then, I settled immediately after and fell off and was by myself (byron had to go to the bathroom or something) so then the gap grew around 20 min into it averaging 5:38/ mile before that.  I was isolated and my legs were spent so without anyone to push me I fell way behind (like 1/4 of a mile or it felt like that) so my pace probably was around my time I think so I'm not too worried.  I just will improve my finishing next time, because I felt I at least fought this workout to stay up with mike.

AM- 3 miles Easy.  I felt pretty good, but a little sore.

PM- Old Man Hills 1x800m, 2x400m, and 4x200m.  I felt alright going there, but I felt a little sluggish.  first 800 I was not feeling awesome but I stuck just a second or two behind mike and abel pushed me from behind.(2:35)  first 400 was alright, but abel and mike were almost racing it felt like!  So, I was just behind them. (1:09) second 400 they seemed to calm down more and I felt stronger on this one and could have went faster(1:10).  First 200 felt really hard to get my legs moving that fast and I would start out behind able and mike and make up space on the meat of the hill (not really steep but enough to slow down their speed) I felt good on it at the end though (33 sec).  Second, third, and fourth were all about the same as the first (not time but feeling wise) hard to start, had to catch up and finished with mike and abel. except the second one I don't think we went fast enough. (37, 34, 33).  But that's not all folks!  Coach made me and mike pace rachel for her last one.  Holy cow!!  She's so fast!  She got a 35!  Except I thought he said do an 800 with her so I started out too slow and was behind them...oops!

Overall-  I felt really strong and it was nice to stick with mike...I think abel helped a lot cause it didn't feel as much like I was running out of my league with him up there!

Was going to run a 5k today with the team for a good cause, but my interview with the Stake President for my mission took too long because he was running a little late.  So, I had my dad pace me on his bike after I warmed up 2 miles.  I set my watch to average pace and gave it to him to keep track.  I was running for the first mile really well and it felt easy, but it took my dad a bit to figure out how fast to go, so I think I would've been closer if it didn't take him almost half a mile to go the right pace.  The last mile I was really struggling but my dad riding right next to me helped me stay with.  My average pace 5:35 pace which is about 5-10 seconds slow, but it was also almost 12 seconds faster than last week so I think I am slowly getting this down.  I think I'll have my dad pace me next week it really helped!

PM- 1600m time trial with DI warm and Harts cool. This wasn't my best race, but I think I just need to improve my third lap and I just need to respond when I recognize myself settle and others pick it up. I don't think I wasn't totally feeling good today...I just was a little off, but it was around the time I got last year at the beginning, but I think I will shave tens of seconds off my time by the end of the year!

AM- 3 miles E. It was a little chilly this morning. My face felt frozen! But its not near as cold as I've heard up North is! Stretched after

PM- 30 min. Tempo AT pace. I felt alright physically today, not like 100%, more like 90%. But mentally, I felt like it was the first time I've really clicked. The whole time it was just so easy to turn off my brain and when it came back on I'd just tell myself "trust yourself, shut off your brain." I was right next to mike the whole tempo until the last block (I fell behind cause I didn't take the corner as well as him and abel) and I ended only like 10 feet behind! By far my best workout mentally in a while! I discovered a lot today and built some positive vibes!

PM- 10x200m (race pace)- I wasn't quite sure what to run for these because I know my time trial wasn't where I'd usually be at so we decided I stick with Byron on them.  Splits were 37, 35, 34, 35, 34, 33, 35, 34, 35, 33. I felt pretty good and I didn't really feel even phased by this workout!  When we were done I felt perfectly fine and ready to do more!

15minLT- We warmed up out towards staheli farm where they were having some soccer tournement.  We started our tempo in the middle of nowhere and it took me about a quarter of a mile to get into the groove of things.  After that, I felt like it was easy.  It was flat with a slight downhill for the first mile-mile and a half. Then, we hit the hill by hunters house and it really killed our average I think.  On the backside I felt like we were flying!  I stayed with Mikey the whole time and we averaged 5:20!  I think I have finally figured out this tempo thing!  I am so ready for dogtown next week.

AM- 3x800m old man hills. First one I felt alright.  Stayed with mike until the very end and was 2 seconds. (2:32) Second one I was feeling kinda sick and had cramps because I didn't eat before hand, not a good idea, and so I fell off mike in the middle but at the end made up some ground to end at an even time (2:33).  The last one I was feeling a little better, not as sick feeling and my sideache and shoulder cramps were almost gone, so I stuck with mike until the last half I just died a little off, but got a good time (2:32). 

PM- 3 miles E. Ran in my new shoes.  I felt really smooth and good. 

I can't wait for dogtown and our first track meet!  I know I can reach my goals for the track season!! :-)

AM- 3 miles E.  I set the wrong alarm, so I woke up late and ran by myself.  I felt pretty good.  It was a really slow pace. 

PM- 4x1600m. Pace was 5:20 for a 1600. Byron and I are getting really good at these! He pushes me so much it's ridiculous! Hopefully we can somehow translate this into races, because that'd be cool and really helpful! First one I felt really good and thought maybe we went too fast (5:16). Second one I was feeling good still, me and byron once again were switching every 200m in this workout, but this one we slowed down a little too much compared to the others but still under our goal time (5:19). Third one we basically stayed right behind mike the whole time and was at most a couple feet behind him! This one byron really pushed me (5:17). The last one I was feeling fatigued so this is when the switching off REALLY helped and really we were just a step behind mike (5:16).

Overall- an awesome workout! I have felt like I've nailed workouts these past 2 weeks and I am ready to translate that into some serious times!! It's gonna be a WAY better track season than my first year last year!!

Got to the race really early because I got a ride from hunter who was in charge of setting it up. I didn't eat a lot, but just enough so I wasn't too hungry. After like an hour and a half of just waiting around, I warmed up with the team and I was ready to go!

RACE- I started out at around 5:39 pace, but it was downhill for the first 3 miles and I was really holding back so I could have energy for the whole race. We had a nice pack of PV kids and the guy from dixie state (I believe its Rodney Warr or something like that). Going into mile 3 I felt 10x better than last year and I was positive this was gonna be a good race. Through the canyon byron and I led the way and set the pace and I think we were doing well. I picked up the pace for us around the bridge just out of the canyon and I think it was just Rodney, Mike and I in 3-5 places. This was the time I really knew I had to push it if I was to keep up with them. So, as we hit the first hill on the dam road and so I picked up our pace to around 5:39 (like it was in the canyon) but I think by the end we were averaging around high 5:40's or a little lower. I kept up on the downhill of the dam road until we hit the main road by the double churches and I was still with them! I was so calm mentally and physically I felt like I could run that pace forever! We hit the hill by hunter's house and I was pushing to keep up with mike. Rodney started to fall a couple feet back on the downhill, because mike and I were hauling but he kept up. I really thought in my head hey I could maybe beat mike! As we hit majestic hill (the worst hill at mile 10) Mike just took off and Rodney was just ahead of me about 15 feet ahead of me. The last two miles I was just pushing to catch Rodney, because I wanted to at least be the next place behind mike. I was going about 5:50 pace. I caught him with about 1.1 mile to go by amping up my pace a little around 5:30 pace. I paced him and I knew I had broken him or something, because I gained so much on him. He was great to run with though because he was so positive. I finished with coach pushing me to kick like I would at the end of the 1600 and I felt like I was flying!! I finished 4th overall and 1st in my age group, because they didn't count mike.

Overall- SO awesome!! This proves to me that this track season is gonna be awesome! I think if I had stuck it in on that hill at mile 10 I would've finished with mike, but really that was my only moment I felt like I backed off mentally and that's pretty great for 13 miles of hard running!! Some said it wasn't short, but I don't think it was too short of 13.1...maybe 13 because I think some of the GPS watches get a little jacked in the canyon, so maybe 13 miles I would say. Finishing only about a minute behind mike is really good for a half marathon and my team took around 5 of the top 10! I won a medal and some money to the running center! That's always nice!

AM- 5 miles E out to Target and back. I wore my sleeves I got from the 1/2 marathon and they kept my arms really warm! I'll have to use them in the future! It was a fun/ funny run! I needed that after a rough night and poor sleep.

PM- 4 miles w/ striders. We did a nice, easy run to the greensprings churches and then did a couple of events for our decathalon. I figured out I was bad at the shot put and the high jump, but I was decent at the hurdles. I think I was too uncomfortable with be embarassed that I didn't do as well as I could've for the hurdles. I think I could be really good if I put in the time, but Idk I want to just focus on distance and maybe every once and while try working on some other events just for fun and to keep things fresh. It was a rough day, so I'm glad it's coming to an end...which is sad, but true.

PM- 3 miles E plus striders. Did it on the track. I felt good. I keep feeling sick to the stomach due to seeing someone I care about not want anything to do with me all the time. We did the long jump and 300m hurdles. I was decent at both. I think I'll stick to distance though, because I think the longer the distance the better and more comfortable I am.

PM- 4x1600m.  Byron and my time goal was 5:13.  I didn't eat lunch, I felt a little sick, but I resolved my stress, which is awesome!  I felt so relieved.  Our first one I already felt tired from no sleep and no lunch, but we hit our time right on! (5:13)  The second repeat I was feeling more tired, but I still hit my time (5:13).  The third one is when I started to struggle.  I fell off a little on most of the last lap until the last 100m I sprinted and caught byron but we were too slow the first two laps so we ended a second back (5:14).  The last one I was trying so hard and I held it until the last lap but sprinted the last 100m (again ha) and caught byron for a good end to the workout (5:12).

Overall- I was really impressed with this because if I can run like this when I am completely out of energy and dead then I am ready to kill the season!  Byron really helped today, but I plan to sleep and eat well tonight! :-)

PM- 12 miles w/ 20 min tempo @5:40 pace. We ran six miles then started our tempo. I started running and it felt too slow... It was too slow so I sped up and just kept it but mike and byron weren't feeling good so I just kept going at the same pace. It was hard to keep pace by myself. I did though cause we guesstimated my distance based on mikes distance and I calculated it and I got 5:37-5:42!! Not bad for a solo tempo when my legs were tight!!

Overall- I was super impressed! I think this was a super confidence booster because I did it without mike or coach to push me! I hav really perfected how to keep myself calm myself mentally! I am sorta glad I got the opportunity to run this!

PM- Did hills on firestation.  I felt good at the beginning, but then I was dehydrated so I felt sick the last 5.  I thought we were doing ten, thats what I was told, but then coach was like do another one after we did ten and, me feeling sick, was like crap!  So it turns out that whoever took last got to stop...so on like 12 I took last out of me byron and mike because I felt sick so he said stop and I was like YES! On the cool down I felt sick so I fell back but then I was like I'm not gonna be a victim of myself so I caught back up even though I was sick.  It felt good to do mentally...not so much physically haha.  Good workout in the end.

AM- spring break so practice at 8 am. We did 4x1600m with the same time goal as last week (5:13). The first one I was feeling fine and really just ran it not too hard. (5:12) Second one was a little harder, but pretty easy. Byron and I switched off every 200m after I lead the first lap. Was right on the time (5:13) Byron had been going to the bathroom inbetween repeats (he needs to eat something different I think) so I switched off with him, but I don't think he was 100% so we were a little slow (5:14). The last one I decided to just go with mike because of byrons bowel trouble I wasn't sure if he'd be on time and I was feeling good. I just stuck a foot behind mike and then tyson came in the last two laps. I felt super smooth and my stride felt quick and concise and easy. The last 100m I gave a little push to go up to mike and he couldn't breath well or something cause he sounded like he was gonna die of lack of oxygen after (5:08).

Overall- Times were 5:12, 5:13, 5:14, and 5:08. I was super happy, because this workout felt really easy, even on the last one where I went with mike. I think that if I can have this kind of form and relax this well in a race, because I felt really good and I ran a 5:08 1600. That's close to my time trial time, which I wasn't feeling great during, and I felt like I was giving half the effort I did during that race. Pretty excited.

AM- 12 miles w/ 20 min AT pace (5:40/mile).  We went out 6 miles and then started our tempo right after that.  I was feeling good, not great, but relaxed.  About 18 min in (2 min left) I looked at my watch and was like ok I can survive another 2 min I mean I have survived 18 min but my breathing started to get jacked and I felt all this fatigue all of a sudden.  I was struggling to keep my form good, but I kept my stride quick again.  That last 2 minutes seemed twice as long as the other 18 minutes of the tempo!  Oh well.  I hit my time with a solid 5:37.  Everything is getting easier and easier and my confidence feels like it's getting higher and higher!!  I can't wait for Kanab...maybe I can knock off qualifying for an event or two :-)

Great job Casey! The key to Kanab (any race) is to just let it happen. No pressure - goals, but no expectations. You have hit workouts and stuff by just getting into a rhythm and letting yourself be the great runner you are - so put that into this weekend!

AM- Old Man Hills 3x(800,400,200).  I felt pretty good on this workout.  We weren't suppose to go as hard as we could, but just a good pace.  I ran with Mike the whole time and I felt really smooth.  I kept my stride quick.  I can't wait for the meet in Kanab this weekend.  I am going to just have fun and be confident in myself as a runner and if I qualify for State that's a bonus!

AM- ANOTHER workout (4 in a row)!  6x800 (@ race pace) w/ 120 beat recovery (1-2 mins), DI warm/cool.  I felt super sore and we hadn't even started yet.  My goal time was around 2:21, but I never hit the time.  I just felt all the workouts, lack of sleep, and the mountain biking trip yesterday all pile up to make me super tired today.  I got about 3-6 seconds slow.  On the second to last one I felt smooth, but that's because we weren't going very fast (2:27).  The last one byron took the lead from mike and I wanted to stay with them, but I just couldn't get moving. (2:25).  I wasn't too disappointed with this workout because I wasn't feeling great.

Race today.  I knew there would be no one but mike and me really in this.  Until I got there and saw victor from CV who is decently fast.  Warmed up two miles before our race, which was the first event.

3200m- I started out and I felt good the first two laps.  Really easy.  The third lap we didn't hit out lap goal time after that (which was like 1:15).  I didn't feel like I was racing...it felt like I was tempoing it.  The last two laps I fell off, but I wasn't really tired...maybe a little tight, but that shouldn't slow me down.  I just didn't push as if I was not all there mentally...I felt kind of just going through the motions at the end which sucks.  Next 3200m I know I'll get it next race, because there was really no competition other than mike here and once I fell off him a little it was really hard to snap out of my trance.  I got a 10:11 which is 10 seconds off qualifying, but I know I can qualify by quite a bit!  I just won't let this race get to me and just make it a learning race.

1600m-  This was after a bunch of breaks and events and I was sunburnt and already tired.  I just didn't feel up to anything today.  I don't know what was wrong with me.  From the get-go I didn't really go with mike and I got stuck in the awkward alone group in between the slower and lead group.  At the last lap I should have passed victor but I really just felt like eh and my legs were tight.  I have so many excuses but really it was all down to not enough effort given.  I ended up getting a 4:52...which is ridiculously slow for me, because I ran a 5:03 first 4 laps in the 3200m and I felt like I was taking it easy, so really I should be a good 20 seconds faster than that I felt!  

4x400m-  I really was just out to have fun with me and two freshmen and a sophomore (all distance guys) running a 4x400 race.  So cam (sophomore) started off and did pretty good I'd say and got a 1:02 then handed it off to me.  I felt amazing the first 200m, like I was just zooming!  My feet felt so quick!  The last 200m I felt all my other races and the first 200m hit me and it was super hard!  I ended up getting a 59 second which is decent for being even more tired than the 1600m!  Then nick (freshmen) ran a 59 also and paul (freshmen) anchored with a 57.  We ended up getting a 3:58 which almost qualifies for 1A guys! haha but it was a good time.  Favorite race of the day because it was fun.

Overall- I just need to push it to the fullest (I know people say this all the time...) especially the 3rd and 4th lap (in the 1600) and the 5th and 6th lap (3200m).  I just need to get out of pace mode and go into race mode.  I have figured how to hit times in practice and really push it now I just need to figure out racing, which will come as I race and keep hitting workouts.  So really this is just a good learning day.  Nothing to frett about.

AM- 3 miles E.  I felt good.

PM- 4x1600m @ 5:13 pace.  First one Byron was antsy or something, so he was right on mikes back and we ran it fast, because I think he thought he was running slow (5:09).  The second one I felt good, but I didn't want to go too fast again.  I ended up going slow (5:14).  The third one Byron was in the bathroom (again!) and so I ran it with mike until he decided to join us the last lap (5:10).  The last one my legs were a little tight, but I had no trouble moving my legs faster. I was by myself again but I was right behind mike a couple feet (5:11).

Overall- 5:09, 5:14, 5:10, 5:11.  I felt really good today.  It made me realize how slow my 3200 was because I ran these with ease and more of them at about the same pace (my 3200m splits were 5:03, 5:08).  I know I'll run much faster at PV so I'll prepare better for that one all throughout this week!

PM- 7 miles w/ striders.  We went out over roller coaster hills (my favorite).  Nice, easy pace the whole time.  Some interesting cheesecake debates (the anti-cheesecakers one out...sorry byron and colton) and byron's ability to get a good looking wife (we said no but taylor braken said yes..maybe there's hope for him if a girl says that!).  Overall a good run.  Today I felt a little out of it during class so it was nice to have an good run!

Helped set up the meet and was ready to go, but my race wasn't for a while, because there was the seeded girls and guys then all the girls before me. So I watched Mike run well in the seeded then warmed up for my race.

Started out at a decent pace and byron and I took the lead. The second lap I took over and surged but it was still slow (around a 1:12...way too slow). The third lap I had the chance to go with the guy from cedar, but didn't. The last lap wasn't my best, because I didn't get moving the third lap to get my legs moving for a good kick.

Overall- I attacked more in this than usual in the mile which was nice. I still think I can go much faster I just got to attack the race more.

Woke up not feeling great. I kind of felt sick, but I knew it'd go away once the race started. I warmed up with byron and I was ready to attack this race. I was about 18th or so in the lanes. I started out and I felt amazing. I felt so smooth and like I was moving! I was right behind mike and jake heslington and chuck and asay. I was just attacking and felt amazing.I stuck with them for about 3 and a half laps then I started to get doubts in my head whether I could I stay with them. I came through the mile mark at 4:50. But, as it always does when I doubt myself, I slowed down little by little. I didn't feel like I was pushing myself and was just kind of finishing it. I didn't get laped by ben which is good (he ran a 8:55!) but kind of sad. I finished strong barely getting out kicked by jason quinn. Cooled down by myself on DI afterwards.

Overall- I wasn't so much disappointed that I missed qualifying by a second or two, but that I had the chance to finally get a break through race, but I chickened out. I totally could've gone with mike and them, but I doubted myself. And once I doubted myself it felt like I wasn't attacking and when I don't attack I slow WAY down. It will be a good lesson for the future, but I will work really hard this next week to attack workouts right and then Hurricane qualify and attack the whole way!!

PM- race...I was tired and dreading this race. Terrible mental start to my race and I won't do it again. I had to have some guys slap me...literally...to stay awake. Everyone started out slow and the 800 was a 2:20 ish. I just didn't believe in my kick like I should've to go with brigham! I can go with him! I was super slow the last two...4:50 the same as my split for the first 1600 of the PV 3200. Oh well, lessoned learned. Super mad, but as I read in a class "there is no such thing as failure, only feedback." I will take this as feedback!

I need to work on my third laps (usually 1:19 about 2-3 seconds slow), but my first lap was always really strong! I really know I am going to lay the wood at this race! I felt really good this set, but I felt like I used everything and I wasn't feeling too good, but...we had another one! I was feeling sick, need to hydrate and eat better. 3rd 600- 1:53 so slow. 3rd 400- 1:12, 3rd 300- 50, 3rd 200- 30, 3rd 100- 14. So really a solid workout!

PM-  Warmed up for the race.  During the race I was in it for the first two laps, but not really.  I need to just trust myself.  I noticed there is one or two moments where I either gotta decide to go or sit and I have been choosing to sit.  I have been trying to much to do a controlled race, like sort of a tempo, and you can't do that in a race.  I am just gonna work on pushing hard and not trying to be too over controlling in my races!

3200m- I was ranked 4th going into it and I was determined to qualify.  I started out with a good, solid first mile just a bit behind mike like 20 m (4:53).  The second mile I shouldn't have stuck with the group I did because they were slowing down and some were just getting ready to kick.  I should've pushed more the last mile.  Because I was .82 off of state qualifying!  And really I felt like I was not going all out..just sat at the 'right pace' like a tempo and just tried to keep it.  I need to stop playing it safe!  Safe people don't reach their goals!  Argh..oh well.  I'll shake it off and try not to get frustrated because it's still a PR.

PM- 4x1600m (5:07 pace): It was really windy today so hitting my times was harder, because it was harder to keep my feet quick.  The first one I did really well on and felt fine (5:06).  The second one was a little harder and the wind made it harder to push (5:09).  The third one the first lap I tried to push the pace for mike on the first lap, because it looked like the wind was really affecting him and I should have went faster the third lap, it was a 1:21 about 4 seconds slow and where I lost most of my time (5:10).  The last one I tried to pull it back together and I really stayed with mike and byron until the last lap just so I'd hit my time and not ruin workouts later in the week (5:07).

Overall- I was really pleased.  I was only over for two (2nd- 2 seconds over 3rd- 3 seconds over) and the wind was blowing REALLY hard, so I was very pleased.  Now I just have to translate my positive workouts (that I've been nailing each one for a long time) into solid racing!  I just need to shift gears!  Excited for Panther Relays and Dixie invite!

PM- Coe Workout (yes, Sebastian Coe did do this!). workout (goal times): 100m (17.5 sec), 110m (18.7 sec), 120m (19.9 sec), 130m (21.1 sec), 140m (22.3 sec), 150m (23.5 sec), 160m (24.7 sec), 170m (25.9 sec), 180m (27.1 sec), 190m (28.3 sec), 200m (29.5 sec) equal distance recovery on all of them.  My times were a little slow for me, because the only 400m I could put in (for the split calculator) was a little slow because it was after running the 1600 and 3200 in the same day and sitting in the sun.  Anyway, the workout I was way under for the whole thing except for the last two I hit right on (exactly on..like 28.3 & 29.5).  I liked this workout, because it wasn't way hard but it definitely helped me realize that I have some speed in my legs and I just got to trust it!

PM- RACE.  I started out and I was feeling really good! I was right behind Mike (both of them...kinda weird). (1:15)  The last lap was alright but I was just going in and wasn't as fast as I needed (1:11)

3200m- 10:10 I started out well, but I gave up for some reason...I want to believe in myself SOO badly, but it feels fake and forced when I do try...It was hard after because Coach wouldn't even talk to me...It's hard to not be frustrated when everyone around me is forcing me to be motivated and it feels like I have to please them or I am disappointing them in this case...I want to please myself!  You don't think I am not disappointed??  You don't think I give a bigger crap than you??  Of course I do! Huh...I know I can get it if I just believe...I just don't know how to believe without forcing it and faking it...because fake believe has done me no good when the going gets tough in a race...I believe in workouts so why in the world can't I do it in RACES!!!???

PM- 10x400m (1:06-1:07's) w/ descending recovery (after 1st 3- 1:15, after 4&5- 1:00, after 6&7- 45 sec., after 8&9- 30 sec.   I ran the first one too fast because I jogged the last ten meters and still got a 1:05.   The next four were right on (1:07).  The 6th/7th one I was about 2 seconds off and I could feel my legs getting tired. (1:09).  the 8th I could feel the shorter recoveries getting to me mentally (1:09), so I picked it up the first 200m and hit it right on (1:07).  The last one I was dead from the 30 second recovery (holy cow it went by soo fast!!) and I finished with a 1:09.

Overall- I was really pleased especially since I didn't feel good going into this (from slight sickness) and really not taking care of my body through stretching, rolling, icing, and hydrating.  I felt super tired/fatigued, but I didn't give up which was good!

PM- I stretched after and I drank a lot today which was really smart and set up for a good workout. 200m, 220, 240, 260, 280, 300m w/ times getting faster each time. My 200m time was 36, then 38.3, 41.6, 43.9, 46.2, 48.5. I felt super good from taking care of myself. Times: 33.6, 36.5, 39.1, 39.7, 41.3, 44.6. So, I was a couple seconds fast and I felt like I was taking it easy really. I felt like I was so fast today! I think this gave me the confidence I needed for this weekend at SUU!

PM- 3x1600 @ 5:02.  I didn't do the 3200m repeat like mike and byron because coach wanted me to hit my time.  First one I felt great and I felt soo strong (5:01).  The second one I could feel the heat (it was 97*F) and I slowed down too much on the second lap and the gap between me and mike grew. (5:13)  The last one was way too slow the first lap was fast enough 1:11 ish and I thought I'd bring it back together but I thought about it too much and slowed down.  (5:21)

Overall- I was happy to see that I could even hit the time but I was disappointed I didn't do it for all of them because I think I could have.  I have been thinking way too much during workouts lately and I've done my best when I've just shut up my brain and just ran what I was suppose to, because my body knows how to run certain paces and can do it.

PM- 4x400m all out w/ full recovery (about 10 min).  We weren't able to do it on CVHS track because the bus was late and so the JV meet already started, so we had to use our GPS watches on the road.  We did the first one and I felt good, I slowed down a little at the end...but we were sub 40 seconds...our distance was a little off haha.  So, the next one we went out further but we over corrected and ended at like 1:06 for around 450m-500m.  The last two were the right distance and sub 1 min which was good so I think we hit them all under a min.  I noticed on the last two when people caught up I'd started slowing down and giving up but this time I fought back and quickened my stride.  I think that was a good lesson to learn to learn how to react correctly when people come up on me.

PM- RACE (3200m) I decided today to do something I haven't done all season (but I think I should've done it earlier...oh well). I decided to run the first half just a little slower and kick the last mile. So, coach told me to stay right on chris hansen because he usually runs smart and the way I wanted, but he took out way fast and was right on mike's shoulder. So I just tucked in upper-mid-pack. Chris slowly came back to where I was and I just stuck on his shoulder. 1st mile- 4:59. Perfect! Exactly what I wanted. I took off the 5th lap and I caught a ton of people! I was feeling so good and my legs felt like they could run this pace forever! Then, Hunter Chamberlain and Josh Thatcher came up and started to kick ahead of me and I went with Hunter for a bit but then for some reason I chose to stick with Josh while Hunter caught the group ahead of us. Really that was my only mistake this race...not going with Hunter. Josh gained a little gap in the 6th lap but only a couple of feet. 800m to go I was feeling good but for some reason I didn't go for my kick, but I was going faster just not kicking. Last lap I really wanted state so I dug deep and caught Josh because I thought he'd be close. I outsprinted him at the end barely. He is fast for how young he is.

I ended up getting 10:06. The race was really slow (mike got a 9:45 about 10-15 seconds slower than usual) so I was bummed I didn't get state. I felt like I raced it smarter than I ever have before! I think I'm going to do half-marathons this summer because I can hold paces longer and more effectively than speed. But it was not my best season, but I'm glad I got to be a part of the team and at least end on a positive note. I really pulled my times back down after I let them slip. I love my team so much and can't wait to hear about them dominating next year!

When I asked coach about region, he told me how great you raced. It's a bummer to not make state when you're shooting for it. Sorry about that. But what a good feeling to know that you raced well. Congratulations. I'm very happy for you.

Ran when I woke up this morning. I have had trouble motivating myself to run especially since I decided I had no time to do a half marathon before my mission. But I have also had trouble getting hungry to eat (which I have been losing weight ironically since I've stopped running). I don't have a lot to do anymore so I decided that I'd start running again. Just easy mileage. It's weird I am going in almost 40 days!! My best friend growing up is leaving tomorrow and my best friend in high school is in the MTC today! Crazy!! It's coming soo fast!! Anyway, felt like crap on this run. I felt out of shape big time. But I kept a good pace!

I really want to run, but my foot is messed right now.  I tried running two days ago and I made it like 15 feet I was in so much discomfort (I won't say pain, because that would mean I'm injured...and it's not quite that bad...hopefully).  So, I went for a ride with my dad today and yesterday.  Like a legitimate ride with road bike and legit jerseys and all that jazz.  Today we went up coral canyon hill and I cruised past them!  And waited at the top.  But on the flats and downhills struggled to keep up.  They are fast riders and have for years but on hills I'm so much lighter its easier for me.  On the second down hill I got up to 62 Km/Hr (around 40 mph)!  It was cool to go that fast!!  My butt hurts though from the seat...oh well!  It was nice to switch it up a little!
